Bean and Goose Craft Chocolate
When it comes to Irish craft chocolate, we are understandably obsessed with Bean & Goose which hails from the Sunny South East. Their single origin bars and array of tempting and well-thought out flavour combos like Dark Chocolate with Roasted Spiced Hazelnut and Wexford Honey or Milk Chocolate with Smoked Irish Sea Salt & Cocoa Nibs make them irresistible at any time of the year.
Beautiful packaging ensures they are perfectly gift-worthy, whether it is a couple of bars or a seriously tempting box Irish Whiskey Truffles, made with Greenore Whiskey, Writers Tears, Kilbeggan Whiskey and Teeling Whiskey.
Price: €6 per bar or €16.50 for a box of 8 Irish Whiskey Truffles
Hazel Mountain Chocolate
Hazel Mountain Hot Chocolate from the wilds of The Burren is a game-changer for those of us who love nothing more than curling up by the fire with a festive hot choccie – it even got a mention from Nigella on the Late Late! If it’s good enough for the domestic goddess it will be good enough for your favourite chocoholic. Pair with some handmade Irish marshmallows (like Delish Melish ) and you have a thoughtful and tremendously delicious treat.
Price: €12 per box
The Proper Chocolate Company Christmas Specials
Dublin based chocolatiers Proper Chocolate Company have three special Christmas varieties this year, much to our delight. In addition to a Venezuelan Bar with Teeling Whiskey, there is also a Blond Salted Caramel Chocolate and a Nicaraguan Chocolate with Espresso made with an heirloom cocoa bean and paired with a Nicaraguan Microlot Coffee Bean. As with all of their handmade chocolate, they start with the cocoa bean and produce the chocolate out of a “chocolate workshop” in Glasnevin – like Dublin’s answer to Willy Wonka’s factory.
Price: Bars €7 each or as a trio in a decorative Bean-to-Bar Chocolate Chest for €25
Rhoda Cocoa Chocolate
Hailing from Bray, Rhoda Cocoa handcrafted artisan chocolate is the kind of gift you won’t want to part with – best buy two of these stunning bars as begrudging your giftee is never a good look. Spiked with festive red and green and beautifully balanced, Spices, Morello Cherry and Pistachio is the perfect Christmas treat.

Popsy Daisy Irish Whiskey Salted Caramel Popcorn
Picking up a Blas na hEireann Gold Award in 2017, there is no better treat to pair with watching Christmas movies than Popsy Daisy popcorn. Sticky, gooey and sweet with a coating of Teeling Whiskey caramel and Oriel sea salt, popping this is your loved ones’ stocking is definitely a safe bet.

Mella’s Irish Butter Fudge
Meltingly delicious, smooth fudge isn’t as simple to whip up at home as many will tell you (unless you are a dab hand with a sugar thermometer) so save yourself the scrubbing of pans and disappointment and give the gift of Mella’s Irish Butter Fudge. Hand made in West Cork to a traditional recipe, each flavour is utterly indulgent but Christmas Spice with Orange or Rum and Raisin are our top festive fudgey picks.
Price: €5 for 175g pouch
Miena’s Handmade Nougat
Nougat is a traditional Christmas treat across Italy (where it is known as Torrones) and when dotted with toasty nuts and dried fruit it is difficult to top for a yuletide sweet treat. Multi award winning Miena’s Handmade Nougat is a no-brainer, with tempting flavour combos like Chocolate, Hazelnut and Cranberry or Almond and Pistachio to name a few. Try out every variety with their beautiful Christmas Selection Tin.

Pandora Bell Butter Caramels

Mór Irish Gin
Now we’re certainly not suggesting you turn stockings into boozy socks, but if there is a gin-thusiast in your life this gift has their name all over it – literally. Mór Irish Gin allows you to personalise your bottle for loved ones, so there will be no fear of stocking theft on Christmas morning . For the gin lover in your life, there’s no fear that they’ll want to re-gift this one.
Black Twist Hard Coffee
Caffeine lovers with a penchant for whiskey (i.e people I would get on with like a house on fire) will melt when they unwrap a bottle of Black Twist. It’s far from a combination of two of life’s great pleasures for the sake of it, this Irish-made delight picked up 2 Gold Stars at the Great Taste Awards this year for its borderline addictive delicious flavour.
The Pogues Irish Whiskey
As a devout whiskey worshipper, I welcome the arrival of hot whiskey season wholeheartedly and the only thing better than the gift of uisce beatha is a bottle with (Christmas) bells on. Marrying the undisputed greatest Christmas song of all time with our finest liquor, your recipient won’t call you a scumbag or maggot if you pop a bottle of The Pogues Irish Whiskey in their stocking.
If you need something slightly more petite to fit the stocking brief, the Writers Tears Copper Pot Whiskey gift box is perfect. Three miniature bottles of Walshe Whiskey’s finest, all packed up in a leather-bound book style box with extracts of “Dubliners” by James Joyce – the only book your loved one will want to curl up with by the fire this Christmas.
Growing up with the name Darina, I was constantly asked if I could cook like my namesake. I am the only person to have contested both Masterchef and the Great Irish Bake Off and am passionate about discovering and creating delicious things – I can sometimes be caught in the act on TV3’s Six O’Clock Show or RTE Today. Working with TheTaste allows me to satisfy this craving and marries my food fascination with my love of writing and ranting. Follow me on my pursuit of deliciousness.
