24 Hours in Dingle – The Best Places to Eat, Drink And Sleep

A beautiful coastal town in Kerry, Dingle has been a tourist hub for many a year, with visitors from both Ireland and abroad making their way to this scenic spot in search of good food, accommodation with a view and of course, the infamous Fungie.

In recent years, the rugged landscape of Dingle, and indeed Kerry as a whole, has also captured the attention of many a Star Wars fan. With the town’s popularity ever increasing, we’ve compiled a guide to the best places to eat, drink and stay in Dingle, so you can rest easy after all your trekking across the Kingdom.

Breakfast & Coffee

Bean in Dingle

Serving Badger & Dodo coffee, Bean in Dingle is the perfect place to pick up a steaming hot cup of coffee. Whether you’re craving a Flat White, a Latte or a straight shot of the good stuff, you’ll find an expertly prepared brew here.

My Boy Blue

A new opening in Dingle, My Boy Blue serves a huge variety of breakfast, brunch and lunch dishes that are sure to satisfy all palates.Chef Dave’s menu includes everything from toasties and Harissa Eggs to Buttermilk Pancakes Brunch Burritos. To top it all off, My Boy Blue also serves the popular 3FE coffee and a number of gluten free, vegan and raw options.

Bácús Bakery and Cafe

Is there anything better than the smell of freshly baked bread? Bácús cafe-bakery is located along the Dingle Peninsula and produces a range of traditional Irish and European breads from scratch, finished by hand and baked in stone-floored deck ovens. You can find Orla Gowen’s creations in the cafe and in several local restaurants and farmers markets. For those with a sweet tooth, they also bake a small but tasty selection of confectionery.

Lunch

Caifé na Caolóige

Indulge in a taste of West Kerry in Caifé na Caolóige at Louis Mulcahy Pottery on the Dingle Penninsula. Enjoy exquisite locally sourced food in beautiful surroundings, including Dingle Peninsula Cheese and Dingle Crabmeat. With a selection of sweet and savoury treats on the menu, including raspberry and dark chocolate brownies, this is the perfect spot for lunch and dessert, not to mention a steaming hot cup of tea or coffee. They also serve a number of gluten free options.

The Little Cheese Shop

If you don’t fancy sitting around in a restaurant for lunch and would prefer to eat as you walk, then why not fill up on cheese (though we can’t guarantee you’ll be in and out of here in 5 minutes). A cheese lover’s wonderland, The Little Cheese Shop is the perfect place for to sample and stock up on a whole range of cheesy delights. We almost dare you to leave without buying something.

Dinner

Global Village

In the heart of Dingle town on Main Street,  Chef Martin Bealin and Nuala Cassidy’s Global Village restaurant has attracted quite a following as a must-visit for foodies. Open since 1997, this award-winning restaurant offers a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere and brings together the classic and modern in a wonderful “harmony of taste”. Utilising local produce, especially from their garden and local farms, the sustainable menu is constantly changing to reflect the availability of local produce.

The Chart House

Open since 2000, The Chart House is a family-friendly restaurant with a strong focus on the importance of good hospitality. A Michelin Bib award-winning restaurant with an impressive menu bursting with the flavours of local producers, enjoy dishes like Annascaul Black Pudding, Roasted Skeghanore Duck Breast and Dingle Bay Seafood Chowder. They also have a special Chart House salad made with leaves from Rosie’s and Jim’s garden in Lispole. The Chart House believes in uncomplicated food that is packed with flavour and they strive to offer the best experience every time.

Out of The Blue

Reopened since March 2018, Out Of The Blue is a seafood only restaurant in Dingle, with their website joking that “Meat Eaters Need Not Apply”. Offering an incredibly fresh seafood delights, the day’s menu depends on the catch of the day, with the blackboard menu in this casual restaurant changing to reflect the daily haul. A true gem, if you’re a seafood fan visiting Dingle, you know where to go.

Pubs & Bars

Dick Mack’s Pub

If you’re looking for a fine whiskey and a pint of the good stuff, Dick Mack’s Pub is where you need to be. Open since 1899, this award-winning historical pub is part bar, part leather shop. A quick exploration of the bar’s adjoining rooms will have you standing in the rooms where the MacDonnell family lived until recent times. So grab a beer (or indeed, a whiskey), settle yourself into one of the snugs and experience the incomparable atmosphere of this unique Irish pub.

Lord Baker’s Restaurant and Bar

Believed to be the oldest pub in Dingle, Lord Baker’s is full of historical character and charm. This seafood restaurant and bar serves locally sourced produce, if you fancy settling in for the evening. Cosy up with a hot bowl of chowder and embrace the traditional Irish atmosphere and decor. Stay for a pint and soak up the family history with the restaurant-bar’s various historical artefacts, including posters, photographs and other knick-knacks.

Castlewood House
