A Taste of Teeling’s Tour by Suzi Redmond

Teeling’s new distillery officially opened it’s doors to the public last Saturday the 13th of June, exciting times ahead for Dublin as this is the first distillery to open its doors in 125 years. They are located in New Market square which is about a 15 minute walk from Grafton Street.

They see their visitors centre being able to compete with the likes of the Guinness Storehouse & Jameson Distillery. Can they? Oh yes they can, I was lucky enough to get a tour from Stephen Teeling, the owner who’s enthusiasm shone through for his new project. He was excited to show us what he himself and Jack have been able to create in such a short amount of time. Only a year ago it was a shell, now it’s a fully functioning distillery with busy stills and a creative interior for visitors.

A lot of thought has gone into the refurbishment and design of the building from the impressive exterior right down to the barrel inspired seating. The tour is around 30 minutes long, which starts with a brief history of the building and the family’s long connection with distilling. You enter through the magic door into the distillery which is all shiny and new. Walking up into the middle of it you are shown exactly the processes that create the whiskey. Seeing the creation processes really brings it to life and everyone’s passion for this boutique whiskey is evident.

I have been fortunate enough to visit three times in the last two weeks, was it two too many, no. I got to see it from different perspectives and be guided by tour guides, who actually have as much passion and enthusiasm for the distillery as Jack & Stephen do themselves.

Jack & Stephen have put thought into every aspect from the whiskey, the design of the distillery to the people who will be working there. Everyone is excited to be there and this comes across in spades. You leave looking forward to your next visit. They finish your tour with a whiskey and cocktail tasting and all for €14. The whiskey is delicious and beautifully crafted with the cocktail showcasing the whiskey tastefully.

This is a Spirit of Dublin we highly recommend.

Say Congrats to Teelings
