To celebrate the completion of the recent refurbishment of the hotel and re-development of the golf course, Glenlo Abbey Hotel has announced an Afternoon Tea ‘Week of Wonders’ event.
From the 24th-30th of October the 5* hotel will pair a different theme each day with wondrous and mouth-watering creations from Head Chef Alan McArdle and his kitchen brigade.
The hotel is most recognised for its unique fine dining restaurant aboard two former carriages of the Orient Express and this forms the setting for the opening day of the ‘Week of Wonders’.
Saturday 24th – Bollinger Afternoon Tea aboard the Orient Express
Climb aboard and enjoy a sumptuous traditional Afternoon Tea in the cosseted luxury of the Pullman Dining Cars. Complementing the inspiring views from your window, the train’s opulent interiors feature handmade fabrics and ornate marquetry. The Afternoon Tea experience includes a Bollinger champagne welcome reception followed by traditional afternoon tea with loose-leaf tea of your choice. €34.50
Sunday 25th – Family Afternoon Tea Fairytales by the Fireside
Sunday is a day for family and what better way to spend it than with your loved ones enjoying a family Afternoon Tea in the River Room Restaurant overlooking Lough Corrib and the gardens. Elsa the Snow Queen and Anna will meet and greet on arrival with a complimentary goodie bag for all the children and there will be a reading from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Guests will enjoy gingerbread mocktails, light entertainment with our resident pianist, family movie in the Blake Screening Suite plus traditional Afternoon Tea with tea or coffee. Weather permitting, families can take tea on the terrace overlooking the walled garden and even enjoy a game of croquet afterwards or some kite flying. Adults €22.50 Children €10.50
Monday 26th – Veggie lovers Afternoon Tea
There’s something for all tastes at Glenlo Abbey and this special Afternoon Tea is a perfect treat for Vegetarian and SuperFood lovers. The entire menu is dedicated to all things green and the order of the day includes a Vegetarian Themed Afternoon Tea, light entertainment provided by the resident pianist and a ginger martini (well we can’t be good all of the time). €30.50
Tuesday 27th – Downton Abbey meets Glenlo Abbey Traditional Afternoon Tea
Resident butler Mr Carson will greet you at the steps of Glenlo Abbey and escort you to the Ffrench Drawing Room for a spot of Afternoon Tea in front of the glowing open log fire, followed by a special poetry reading by Dr Anna King in the 18th Century Abbey. Guests will enjoy traditional Afternoon Tea, light entertainment with the resident pianist and a champagne cocktail. €34.50
Wednesday 28th – Parisian Chic Taittinger Afternoon Tea
Macaroons, mini éclairs and gâteaux opera are just a few of the tempting tastes that form part of the Parisian Chic day in the aptly named Ffrench Room. The Afternoon Tea will be aptly accompanied with a glass of Taittinger to set the scene along with canapés and light entertainment with our resident pianist. Oh lá lá! €34.50
Thursday 29th – Wild Atlantic Way Afternoon Tea
To celebrate the great success of the Wild Atlantic Way, Thursday offers a tantalising display of the finest of local produce from the shores of Galway Bay. Mary, our local seafood supplier, will be on hand to give us an insight into life in the deep end. This experience includes Traditional Afternoon Tea and light entertainment with the resident pianist. €22.50
Friday 30th – Halloween Afternoon Tea
Hubble, bubble, toil and trouble, Glenlo Abbey has something spooky brewing. Halloween horrors are the inspiration for these Afternoon Treats. Afterwards guests are invited to watch a fantastic Falconry Show in the Walled Garden. The experience includes Traditional Afternoon Tea, light entertainment with the resident pianist, a scary movie if you dare in the Blake Suite Screening Room and the Falconry Show. €27.50
