A Great Value Chardonnay that Shows an Unexpected Side of Argentina

There are plenty of things that quickly come to mind when you think about Argentina: Tango, barbecue, football and Malbec, to name a few. But if you dig a bit deeper, less known but equally interesting facts about the South American country appear: Argentinians are among the biggest radio listeners in the world, it was the first Latin American country to legalise same-sex marriage in 2010, and they have great wines from Chardonnay. Mind blown.

A Great Value Chardonnay that Shows an Unexpected Side of ArgentinaAlamos Ridge Chardonnay 2016 is proof of how the same cool climate and altitude that gives Malbec a head start in Mendoza favours other varieties, and a delicious example of what Chardo can offer in the famous region.

The wine comes from grapes cultivated by the Catena family (Argentinian wine royalty) in the pristine lands in the foothills of the Andean mountains.

It offers a classic Chardonnay palate, with a very pleasant balance between the freshness of green apples, fresh pineapple and ripe lemons, and the richness of custard and vanilla, delicately handed by partial malolactic fermentation and gently use of oak. With a tame 12% ABV, it never overwhelms, instead, each sip seems to invite the following!

With moderate acidity and a slightly creamy texture, it will be a great companion of fatty white fish, poultry or creamy shellfish dishes. It’s round and intense, with a lingering finish.

Alamos Ridge Chardonnay 2016 is available at O’Briens Wine at €14.95.
