Aldi to Sell Over 1,000 Tonnes of Irish Grown Strawberries This Year

Pictured is model and North Dublin native Michele McGrath to help announce today that Aldi will sell over 1,000 tonnes of Bord Bia Assured Irish grown strawberries this year, up 20% on last year, with all 137 stores ready to take delivery of early season Irish strawberries just in time for spring.

Aldi is sourcing its Irish strawberries from the McGuinness Brothers of North County Dublin. The McGuinness Brothers have been growing Irish strawberries for many years and this is now their second year to supply early season produce to Aldi.

Commenting, John Curtin, Aldi’s Group Buying Director said; “Irish customers want the freshest Irish produce and strawberries are always a popular pick. We are delighted to work with McGuinness Brothers to bring the best quality Bord Bia Assured Irish strawberries to customers so early in the season and at the best price possible.”

Aldi is committed to growing its Irish supply base and increasing the number of Irish products available in its stores. It is investing more than €500,000 in year two of its Grow with Aldi supplier development programme, which offers up-and-coming artisan Irish food and drink producers the chance to have their products listed in Aldi’s 137 stores.

Aldi also recently increased its support for small Irish suppliers by reducing its payment terms to 14 days for suppliers that transact up to €300k annually with Aldi. Aldi will sell over €700 million worth of Irish goods this year, sourced from Irish producers, manufacturers and suppliers across the country.

Aldi’s Irish strawberries are on sale in all of their 137 stores nationwide for €2.49 (227g). For more information, please visit www.aldi.ie
