September brings oyster season to our shores, and one of Ireland’s very best foods was celebrated this week at the launch of The Cliff Townhouse’s fourth annual Oyster Festival.
Tuesday evening’s stylish guests were ushered upstairs to the beautiful private function room and bar overlooking a sun-drenched St. Stephen’s Green. A selection of canapés and delicious oysters were served with two of the most perfect accompanying drinks – traditional stout from the Dungarvan Brewing Company and glasses of chilled Moët et Chandon. Head Chef Sean Smith’s delicious canapes included Naked Oysters from both Kellys and Harty Oysters, Grilled Lobster with Tarragon Mayonnaise, Oyster Rockefeller, Steak Tartare, Organic Seatrout with samphire and oyster cream and some lovely sweet treats too.
The evening got off to an exciting start with an Oyster Opening competition presented by Galway Oyster Festival featuring competitors Michael Kelly Junior and former Irish and European Champion Tommy O’Neill who were neck and neck to the bitter end with Michael emerging victorious by seconds.
Later in the evening those who really know their Rockefeller from their Rocky Mountain were given the chance to show off their superior knowledge with a short but tricky Oyster Quiz. Some fabulous prizes were awarded including two places at the upcoming wine dinner in The Cliff Townhouse on October 21st and the top prize: a trip to the property’s sister hotel, The Cliff House Hotel in Ardmore.
Guests included TV3 Presenter Elaine Crowley, 2FM’s Ruth Scott and Lorraine Keane.
The glamorous event was the perfect way to start the Cliff Townhouse’s Oyster Festival, running throughout September but with a special focus between September 8th and 13th and a wide range of restaurant special oyster menus and drinks and an Oyster Bar Happy Hour running throughout those dates.
