Multi award-wining winery Brancott Estate has listened to wine lovers and developed a lighter wine that offers all the flavours of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc with twenty per cent less calories and 26 per cent less alcohol. Brancott Estate Flight is made using grapes harvested earlier in the season, when their sugar levels are naturally lower.
Thanks to this technique, they’re able to produce grape must with less sugar, which ultimately translates to less alcohol (as yeast processes sugar and turns it into it). Flight has won various international accolades and is one of the most highly commended wines in its category.
It is described as a wine with “pink grapefruit and passion fruit notes, while a ripe lemon acidity excites the palate.” It is an ideal aperitif, best enjoyed slightly chilled on its own, and thanks to its pleasant sharpness, it also matches nicely with seafood dishes and chicken or lightly seasoned pork.
Patrick Materman, Brancott Estate Chief Winemaker commented: “Consumers have told us that they are looking for a wine style that is lighter in calories but doesn’t compromise on the taste and flavour complexity of the wine.” He added that “there are a number of ways to reduce the calories in wine but not all of theseprocesses are natural and many of them affect the flavour of the wine. With Brancott Estate Flight, we use a natural winemaking approach to create a wine that is 20 per cent lighter in calories [compared to Brancott Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2016]. By doing this, we retain all the distinctive Marlborough flavours that people expect from Brancott Estate.”
Brancott Estate Flight is widely available nationwide and retails at €15.28 RRP
