While some people are to Valentine’s Day what the Grinch is to Christmas, this day is for the lovers so let’s embrace the holiday in all its heart-shaped glory. Bring in your handwritten letters, your scented candles and your red roses; the world has enough cynicism already so it could use a bit of romance!

What embodies more the spirit of Valentine’s Day than sharing a bottle of Champagne rosé with your sweetheart? Strawberries optional, but highly encouraged.

Canard Duchene Rose - Wine of the Week from O'BriensCanard Duchene Rose is the ultimate Valentine’s bubbly. The Champagne house behind it is literally the product of love, as it was created by a barrel maker named Victor Canard and a winemaker Léonie Duchêne (you can almost see their names Canard-Duchene carved on a tree, and not just gracing their fabulous bottles).

They fell in love, got married, moved to Champagne and formed the house in 1868. A wine lover’s fairy tale, which with every “pop” of a cork (and just in France there’s about one of those every 15 seconds) becomes a part of many other I Dos and happily ever afters.

It’s a subtle rosé, its blush is more La La Land than 50 Shades of Grey but no worries, you get to choose the movie!

Aromas of raspberries and strawberries are met on the palate by a vibrant fizziness and the acidity of a juicy red currant.

It’s fresh and lively, with a delicate hint of strawberry shortcake on the palate, which by the way, would be a lovely thing to pair it with.
