This Christmas, Carlow will turn into a culinary hub to showcase the very best of its ever-growing food and drink culture. From December 6th – 8th, the Carlow Culinary Christmas will be full of foodie delights and a few famous faces.
Carlow is now home to an internationally acclaimed brewery, as well as gin and whiskey distilleries. The county has long been known as the home of the rooster potato and boasts heaps of free-range farms producing organic fruit and vegetables.
Sean O’Brien, Ireland and Leinster rugby star is this year’s Carlow Culinary Christmas Ambassador. Speaking on the event Sean said: “There’s nothing like getting back to Carlow, particularly at holiday time, for a feast of fresh home produce. We’re very fortunate to have amazing food suppliers across Carlow and an incredible food trail that showcases the very best the region has to offer.”
Continuing on he said: “I’m proud to support Carlow Culinary Christmas and really encourage not just local people, but food lovers from all over Ireland, to come along, support local and buy into what is shaping up to be an incredible Christmas in the region.”
On the 6th of December, Fishy Fishy’s Martin Shanahan will be hosting a fun-filled cookery demonstration and on the 7th of December celebrity chef, Rachel Allen will be sharing top tips on how to create the perfect festive food, and tantalising treats for family and friends across this festive season.
These demos will take place in the Visual Arts Centre each evening, with festival-goers able to visit the buzzing food village each night from 7.00pm.
Carlow Culinary Christmas is a celebration of the county’s “unique food and drink offering” and is also a fantastic opportunity for producers and consumers to meet
Carlow County Council CE, Kathleen Holohan, said. “This three-day festival gives food companies, producers and more a chance to forge new contacts and relationships, get face-to-face feedback from customers, learn from those exchanges and launch new products.”
Head of Enterprise with Carlow LEO, Kieran Comerford, said: “Carlow Culinary Christmas will be a fantastic event for all the family and is just one element of a wider Christmas in Carlow programme”.
On December 8th, there will be an action-packed cook-off featuring Chef Adrian, Karl Spain, Gearoid Farrelly, Ed Cahill and Rachel Doyle that is guaranteed to be full of laughs. Throughout the three day festival, there will be lots of activities for the little ones such as children’s workshops and so much more.
