The first episode of Catherine Fulvio’s Tastes Like Home Series returns with the TV star helping Bray local Nikki Preston-Doyle bring a little bit of the Emerald Isle to Spain. Nikki’s sister Jill Preston-Doyle and her niece Carolina have been living in Gran Canaria for over 20 years.
Nikki will be teaching Catherine how to make their favourite dish of pork fillet stuffed with prunes and served with mustard mash and minty vegetables.
Catherine will then jet off to Gran Canaria, to visit Jill and to re-create Nikki’s recipe from home, she will also be serving up one of her delicious dishes, sticky banana date pudding with a rum caramel sauce.
Speaking about her time in Gran Canaria, Catherine said; I discovered that potatoes appear to be loved by all in Gran Canaria, I particularly enjoyed their “wrinkly potatoes”, a thin-skinned potato, traditionally cooked in seawater which gives them their wrinkly effect.”
Continuing on she said; I enjoyed learning ‘Spanglish’ which came about when locals misunderstood what was printed on the packaging. A great example being ‘Otudates’, a favourite potato actually got its name from a misunderstanding from notes on the seedling potato boxes stating “out of date – you couldn’t make it up!”
Viewers will learn tasty recipes while enjoying a glimpse into other cultures and cities. The series will follow eight unique stories of families and friends who come together from vast distances through the power of food.
Londis Sales Director, Conor Hayes said “We are delighted to be partnering with Catherine Fulvio and RTÉ for the third year on this TV series, bringing homely recipes to Irish families around the world. Much like Londis, Catherine values quality, local produce and bringing fresh contemporary ideas to the table, so it’s a perfect match for us to partner with”.
The new series of Tastes Like Home will air on RTE ONE at 7.30 pm on Monday 26th November.
