Chinese New Year - Year of the Rooster

Chinese New Year 2017 – The Year of the Rooster

Most of us celebrated the New Year by gathering with friends and family, watching the countdown on TV, and perhaps even popping a bottle of champagne. But this month a New Year celebration so extravagant will take place that it will make your bottle of bubbly seem a tad trifling in comparison.

Chinese New Year, the most important festival in China, marks the beginning of Chinese Zodiac New Year. This year the Spring Festival will begin on Saturday, January 28th, and will be celebrated over two weeks until Sunday, February 12th.

Food plays a central part in the Chinese New Year festival, and to celebrate the Year of the Rooster we’ve put together a feast of articles on Chinese New Year foods, Interviews with key players from the Irish-Chinese community, Competitions, Chinese Restaurant Reviews, Chinese Recipes, and given you the low down on all the Chinese New Year Events for you to get involved.

Happy New Year! Gong Hey Fat Choy!

Restaurant Reviews

Let’s be honest, here in Ireland Chinese food often gets a bad rap. Every town in Ireland has at least one outlet which isn’t necessarily doing the cuisine’s reputation any favours, yet we return time and time again for our fix of what is seen as a guilty pleasure – saccharine sauces and greasy battered balls abound. The tide, thankfully,…
