Chocolate For Breakfast? Experts Say it is Beneficial to Indulge in the Morning

Long have we prayed that chocolate for breakfast could become a reality, as though we love our bowl of oats or Coco Pops, the real stuff is always that little bit more indulgent.

Food expert and culinary director at Sterling-Rice Group, Liz Moskow, reports that eating squares of dark chocolate “prepares you more for your workday, so what better day part to incorporate dark chocolate into your meal than breakfast?”

We are definitely on board, especially because a study from Syracuse University found that the dark chocolate “specifically helps cognitive function — abstract reasoning, memory and focus,” says Moskow.

This also means that we may be encourage to eat dessert for breakfast more often, as reports from Tel Aviv University also show it can help weight loss. “Combining those two studies and the likeability of having dessert for breakfast, we predict that breakfast might start seeing brunch amuse-bouche chocolate cakes or brunch and breakfast restaurants incorporating a robust dessert menu,” she added further.

Brunch menus around the country will hopefully begin to include more indulgent dishes, perhaps we’ll see chocolate bread & butter puddings or an increase in chocolate chips during breakfast pancakes. If the chefs are at it, they may as well serve dark chocolate sauce in a jug.

Therefore, the next time you’re prepping overnight oats why not add a couple chunks of high quality dark chocolate.
