The Christmas season can be a frantic time. Our work/life balance is certainly tested throughout the month of December and by the time Christmas Day comes around we are often wrung out and ready for a break. For some, having time at home to cook that oh so special Christmas Day meal is in itself a welcome break from the December mayhem, for others, it is yet another added stress. Basting a turkey and peeling endless vegetables surprisingly does not induce feelings of nostalgia for everyone but often panicked palpitations. Cooking for a crowd in itself adds pressure but with all the stresses of modern day life, it is one that some just cannot bear. Luckily, in this era of having everything delivered, there are many options available. Here are just a few of them for your culinary consideration.
With stores in Donnybrook, Stillorgan, Malahide, Greystones and Baggot Street, most Dubliners will be familiar with the name Donnybrook Fair. Inside you will find Soup, Smoked Salmon, Turkey Crown, a Whole Ham, Sides, Stuffing, Gravy, Cranberry Sauce, 12 Mince Pies, a Christmas pudding, Brandy Butter and a Christmas Cheese Selection.

The Whole Ham is replaced by a loin of Free Range Bacon and there is a Chocolate, Raspberry and Vanilla Yule Log for afters along with a traditional Christmas pudding. We absolutely love that for every Christmas Box sold, The Butler’s Pantry donate a Christmas Dinner for two to ALONE. The spirit of Christmas is alive and well.

Located in Blessington, Co. Wicklow, Rod’s Kitchen comes highly recommended. Choose from a whole cooked turkey and ham or individual portions for a smaller gathering. The choice of sides are vast and I was excited to see cauliflower gratin on the menu, a Christmas staple in my opinions. To top it all off….three words. Christmas. Pudding. Brownies. Prices are very reasonable too.
