Healthy and cake are two words we don’t frequently associate, and as a result our favourite baked goods have been relegated to ‘occasional treat’ and ‘guilty pleasure’ status. But now, thanks to Clare-based sommelier turned baker, Naomi Ní Chatháin, you can have your (healthy) cake and eat it too.
Naomi is behind the startup Naomi’s Bake Club, a healthy cake kit subscription which delivers two super-healthy cake kits to your door each month.
All the cakes are sugar-free, gluten-free, grain-free, high-protein, low-calorie, low-carb and diabetic-friendly.
The kits contain all of the dry ingredients made-to-measure (serves 6). All you need to do is add the wet ingredients (the odd egg, butter or coconut oil), mix it up, bake and enjoy. Subscription is €16.95 per month, including free worldwide delivery, and you can easily skip a month or cancel at any time.
Founder Naomi Ní Chatháin is from Clare and is a sommelier turned self-taught baker with a diploma in sports and fitness nutrition. She studied Philosophy, French, and wine in university, and enjoys mulling over flavours, Camus and la chanson française. She lived and studied in France for a couple of years, and loves an adventure.
“I’m a bit of a flavour enthusiast. I’m passionate about nutritious food that doesn’t sacrifice deliciousness. I mostly like to stick to a grain-free and sugar-free diet, and eat my cakes daily. I am always always baking and I definitely eat a lot of cake batter,” says Naomi.
“I love experimenting with new recipes. I had a few friends who wanted to try some baking, but were afraid they didn’t have the skills and didn’t want to fork out for the expensive ingredients they might never use again. So I thought that I could make it easy for them by putting the dry ingredients together. We only use the best and healthiest ingredients, which can be very expensive, so we make it easy and cost-effective to enjoy guilt-free treats.”
