With a flurry of engagements over Christmas and on Valentine’s Day, this time of year can often be one of the busiest for wedding planning. Amongst all the appointments and decisions, choosing your wedding cake however has to be one of the most enjoyable, and delicious, aspects of the planning process!
If you are looking for inspiration for your cake design, we have collated five key wedding cake trends which are proving popular for 2017.
Buttercream-finished cakes are enjoying continued popularity in 2017. We are seeing a move away from fully naked and rustic styles to elegant covered or semi-naked designs adorned with fresh flowers and incorporating luxurious elements such as gold leaf, caramel drips and macarons.
With Pantone designating ‘Greenery’ as its colour of 2017, green is sure to be a key trend for wedding cakes this year. Invoking invigorating freshness, think plain or textured white cakes adorned with foliage and perhaps a few chosen white blooms. Or alternatively use lush foliage as a feature backdrop, or as draping along your cake table, to give a simple cake a ‘wow’ display.
Metallics are a continuing trend for 2017. From abstract gold or copper to shimmer and sparkle, metallics add a luxurious and celebratory touch to any cake design.
Flowers, either fresh or beautifully crafted in sugar, are the making of most wedding cakes. We love the trend for oversized bridal bouquets and look forward to translating this into wedding cake designs for 2017!
Don’t be constrained by any wedding cake traditions. Flavour choices don’t have to conform to the usual options… we love to offer something different or even bespoke. Lime, White Chocolate, Pistachio and Earl Grey, Lemon, Lavender are current favourites.
Also consider the best time to serve your cake, why not make the most of it and cut and enjoy at your drinks reception when guests are hungry and most likely to appreciate its deliciousness!
