This Weekend’s Cork Oyster and Seafood Festival Sounds Well Worth the Trip South
Cork is widely recognised as one of Ireland’s premier foodie destinations, and while it is the second city, many would say it is second to none in the seafood stakes. In celebration of the beautiful bounty of seafood delights on offer in the south, Cork Oyster & Seafood Festival 2017 will take place in The Metropole Hotel from Friday 22nd September until Sunday 24th September.
The Cork Oyster festival, now in its fifth year, will be a feast for lovers of all things from the deep, with a main hub in the Metropole Hotel on MacCurtain Street and events taking place in many more venues across Cork City. Opening the proceedings, the hotel will host sushi-making and oyster shucking demos on Friday from 6pm and these interactive events will also take place on Saturday and Sunday.
The Oyster Tavern at the English Market, The Cornstore, Arthur Maynes and Amicus Restaurant will all take part in making this a delicious weekend to remember. In addition to the most tempting seafood treats in the city, the festival will incorporate live music from big names like The Riptide Movement and Declan O’Rourke, so there is something for oyster lovers and haters alike.
An exciting Cork Gourmet Food Trail will allow you to explore the best spots for seafood in the second city, taking place on Saturday 23rd from 12pm to 5pm with stops in a host of surprise locations. The trail will finish at The Metropole with a Gourmet Trail after-party, where there will even be a prize for Best Sea-Faring Hat! Tickets to the trail cost €75pp for a day of delicious fun.
Finally, the festival will draw to a close with the Oyster Festival Jazz Lunch at The Metropole from 1pm to 3pm, with a tempting buffet and fantastic live jazz to round out the weekend. Sounds like the perfect excuse for a Cork getaway to us!
