Davy Mac’s Bar in Waterford has been recognised for having Ireland’s favourite Irish cocktail: the Apple Market, featuring Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish gin as the base spirit. The accolade was given after last week’s National Cocktail Festival, run by Great Irish Beverages, with over 90 venues across the island of Ireland participating.
All venues created a signature Irish Cocktail for the festival and the publicvoted for their favourite via social media. The winner is a combination of Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin, Licor 43, fresh mint, fresh apple, sugar syrup and fresh lemon.
Oisin Davis of Great Irish Beverages says this is a phenomenal win for Davy Mac’s: “This is the second time both Davy Macs and Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish gin are making waves. Just four months ago Davy Macs Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish gin and tonic was voted the nation’s favourite – and now they’ve done it again. These Irish festivals are all about bringing Irish drinks to the fore and encouraging the industry and the public to celebrate the supreme quality of Irish spirits, beers and soft drinks.”
Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish gin is slow distilled by hand with oriental botanicals and gunpowder tea at The Shed Distillery in Drumshanbo, Co. Leitrim.
Davy Macs, described as Waterford’s “newest oldest bar” serves over 60 gins covering everything from the exotic to the contemporary, Irish to new world. Gin cocktails are also their specialty and their fully trained bartenders are always at hand to lead customers in the right direction.
