21st Century Food – The Digital School of Food Brings E-Learning to New Heights

The Digital School of Food was launched in Dublin recently and is aimed at attracting a new wave of food start-ups. This learning hub is designed to support people in developing their food manufacturing businesses.

It is an e-learning initiative from the Dublin Food Chain and the Local Enterprise Offices, and is the first of its kind in Europe.

It supports food producers in each stage of their start-up, from an initial idea to the growth and development stages.

Supported by Enterprise Ireland, Bord Bia and Dublin Institute of Technology, the initiative was born from the strong interest among food producers to learn more about the industry.

It gives budding entrepreneurs access to priceless advice from key industry experts who will offer guidance and mentoring. The Digital School of Food will be a platform to gain tips and information to help get businesses up and running.

Oisin Geoghegan, Chair of the Network of Local Enterprise Offices, spoke at the launch of this exciting new venture, saying: “We have seen a lot of innovative and excellent food start-ups emerging in Ireland over the last number of years across the country.”

He added: “Local Enterprise Offices are very keen to ensure that start-ups in the food sector are given every opportunity to not just survive but to grow and scale. Setting up a new food business, of itself, can be relatively straightforward.”

He also said that this e-learning platform is “a clever and very practical way to help small food businesses to learn the ropes at their own pace and in their own work environment.”

The programme will initially be available to businesses in Dublin and will then be available nationwide. The course is available free of charge for qualifying businesses.
