We all recognise the quintessential retro fridges emblazoned with Smeg as an instant style upgrade to any kitchen. Taking kitchen goals to a whole new level however, Dolce and Gabbana last year collaborated with Smeg to create an exclusive collection of 100 hand painted fridges, which reportedly retailed for close to €30,000 a piece.
This year, the luxury partnership continues with the release of the ‘Sicily is My Love’, which D&G describes as a true ‘made in Italy’ project set to bring counter top kitchen appliances to stylish new heights. The limited edition range will include vibrant juicers, kettles, toasters, coffee machines and stand mixers.
Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana’s legendary brand shares an affinity with Smeg as both brands embrace the excellence of Italian design and craftsmanship and the ‘made in Italy’ ethos. The appliances will reflect the design house’s intimate link to the isle of Sicily with colourful interpretations of Sicilian folklore hand painted on each.
Sicilian triangular motifs known as crocchi depict traditional fare from the island such as prickly pears and lemons, while many appliances feature Mount Etna and delicate floral motifs. These works of art share the retro feel of Smeg’s typical counter top appliances, including their newly released stand-mixer which gives the iconic Kitchen-Aid a run for it’s money in the style stakes.
While no prices have been confirmed for this new range of dream appliances, if the fridge price tag is anything to go by these exclusive goods will unfortunately be even pricier than the D&G accessories coveted by fashionistas across the globe. The collection is set to be released in Autumn 2017 so we all have a little time to start saving!
