Dublin City Gin participated in the prestigious Blas na hEireann Irish Food Awards in Dingle, Co. Kerry for the first time last weekend, and came home with more awards than any other product: Best White Spirit, Best in Dublin, Best in Leinster and Best Startup.
The awards, in addition to awards at Destille Berlin and the Global Gin Masters earlier in 2016, serve to consolidate Dublin City Gin’s position as a strong player in the Irish craft gin scene. The creators, Ciaran Reilly and Stephen Glennon, are among the few truly independent gin-makers in Ireland, and as they explained, they started the company with their savings and with backing from family and friends.
What began as two friends experimenting with gin recipes in 2012 has become one of Ireland’s most critically acclaimed craft products in the space of just ten months since its release in January 2016, and the two aim to use their recent successes as a springboard to achieve their longterm plan: a craft distillery and pub in Dublin city centre, as well as establishing Dublin City Gin as Ireland’s premier craft gin in key export markets such as the UK and Germany.
