This Easter, The Johnstown Estate is giving ‘un coup de chapeau’ to the art of millinery (that’s literally ‘a nod of the hat’ en français). They’re going all out on an Easter Bonnet theme: hat-shaped, icing-adorned shortbread; marshmallow and chocolate top hats; a cupcake hat that you could almost wear to the races and – the best bit – cake pops with cute little faces surrounded by bonnets and bows for the little people in your life.
And it’s not just about eating hats – this Easter Afternoon Tea Eggstravaganza is about making and wearing all types of headwear. This unique Afternoon Tea includes; Bonnet-shaped short-bread, Marshmallow and chocolate top-hats, a cupcake hat, white chocolate scones served with clotted cream and preserves, carrot & walnut cake to name just a few.
Freshly made finger sandwiches will also be served such as Limerick Ham & Smoked Gubbeen Cheese and tomato relish, Sundried Chicken Caesar Wrap, Open Prawn & Pickled Cucumber on homemade soda bread and Goat Cheese with honey and pine-nut on toasted focaccia.

Any little diners spotted wearing Easter Bonnets will receive a cake pop and drink with our compliments. The hotel’s judges will be giving spot prizes to the finest and most imaginative hats they see. On social media, the hotel is calling on all budding milliners to get their bows, ribbons, glue guns and hats at the ready. This limited edition Afternoon Tea is available from April 15th-28th inclusive priced at €30 per person. It is perfectly complemented by one of our Easter Cocktails. These include the La Vida Mocha – a Frozen Mocha Martini, served in an Easter Egg, and a Bees Knees topped with a sugar nest of mini Easter Eggs at €15 and €13 respectively.
