Set in the cultural quarter of Temple Bar, The Meeting House is the latest addition to the Dublin foodie scene. These guys opened very quietly just before Christmas and have shyed away from publicising the venue until they felt all the pieces had fallen into place, especially the menu. On entering, first thing that will strike you is the beautiful, unique artistic finish that surrounds every corner of the place. The team have commissioned a very talented Dublin based Spanish artist, whose work reflects the diverse cultural aspects of the area.
Something that stood out for us as we took around was that you instantly felt you were in an oasis within Temple Bar. A chilled out atmosphere and carefully dimmed lighting along with the fantastic interior give The Meeting House a very unique proposition. So far so good, but we were there for the food and of course the cocktails, which are designed by the very talented General Manager and award wining mixologist Aaron Hall. The menu is short and sweet, all dishes are priced at €9.99 and are designed as tapas sharing plates with an Indian and Burmese fusion. Gluten free options are also available upon request.
On the night we were looked after by the very lovely Eva, one of the restaurant managers who is clearly very experienced and passionate about what The Meeting house has to offer. She advised selecting between 4-6 dishes to share, you can avail of any 4 dishes for €35 or 6 for €49, which is excellent value for the quality of food we received on the night.
We started off with a Crispy Prawn Tempura with is served with a very tasty Ponzu dipping sauce, prawns were deliciously fresh, very lightly battered and most importantly generously sized. Next up was Bomra’s Tomato Salad, this was highly recommended so were expectation were high. This will make you think tomatoes are not so boring after all. Bursting with flavour filled coriander, crispy garlic, ginger, nuts, tamarind, a punchy little shrimp seasoning and served with crispy little poppadoms this did not disappoint. By far our favourite dish was the Peppered Crusted Steak with enoki mushrooms and sautéed greens. This dish has a wickedly spicy kick to it but nothing too overpowering, which was probably balanced out by The Meeting House secret asian salsa verde.
Last two main dishes were the Warm Duck Salad and the Tuna Sashimi, we had expected the duck to win this one but the poppy crusted tuna dish was excellent. The broth was intense in flavour with pickled ginger and chilli which balanced the fish impeccably. The tuna itself was thinly sliced and cooked beautifully.
We couldn’t leave without sampling some of Aaron mixology skills, so he mixed up one of his unique creations which was also a feature cocktail at this year’s Dine In Dublin launch christened the Tan Reviver. This is Aaron’s take on an Irish guy at the beach on holidays, the Malibu for the exotic destination, Jameson for the Irish twist, devilishly good absinthe, lime and dark chocolate brûlée on the top. Sampling one of these is reason enough for a trip to The Meeting House !
