Enjoy the World’s Most Admired Wine Brands with Findlater Wine & Spirit Group

Findlater Wine & Spirit Group has announced the results of this year’s Drinks International magazine survey; they are proudly representing 3 of the World’s Most Admired Wine Brands.

The renowned World’s Most Admired Wine Brands listing awards brands for a whole range of achievements, not just sales figures. Categories include wines that show consistent or improving quality; that reflect their region or country of origin; who respond to the needs and tastes of its target audience; that are well marketed and packaged; and have strong appeal to a wide demographic.

These categories are compiled and voted on by over 200 members of the international wine industry including the world’s top Masters of Wine, sommeliers, commercial wine buyers, educators and journalists.

Now Findlater has shared their recommendations from each of the award winning brands they represent for you to enjoy over the summer and see what makes them so admirable amongst the world’s wine trade.

Penfolds Bin 28 2011PENFOLDSWorld’s #1 Most Admired Wine Brand, Australia’s #1 Most Admired Wine Brand

This most iconic of Australian wine brands has been knocking at the door of the No.1 spot for years, so it’s no surprise they finally made it in 2016. From Rawson’s Retreat to Grange, Penfolds have all bases covered, though quality is always a priority at all price ranges for this famous brand.

PENFOLDS Bin 28 KALIMNA SHIRAZ RSP €34.99

The Bin 28 offers a showcase of warm climate Australian Shiraz: ripe, robust and generously flavoured. First made in 1959, Bin 28 is named after the famous Barossa Valley Kalimna Vineyard purchased by Penfolds in 1945 and from which the wine was originally sourced. Today, Bin 28 is a multi-region, multi-vineyard blend, with the Barossa Valley always well represented.

Expect a concentrated fruit experience, with an amplitude of black fruit flavours of richness and density, while savoury notes are complimented by macerated berry compote and grippy tannins.

Torres has never been out of the top two spots in this famous list, a testament to its enduring quality and esteem amongst the world’s wine trade.

TORRES CELESTE RSP €20.99

Currently celebrating its 10th anniversary, Torres Celeste is one of Ireland’s best-loved wines from Ribera del Duero which also recently earned 90 points in both Wine Spectator and Guía Peñín, ensuring that the region’s most-exported wine can back up its prominence with quality.

Celeste Crianza was the first Spanish wine produced by the Torres family outside of Catalonia and marked the beginning of an expansion into the leading wine regions of Spain. It’s produced at a small company-owned winery in Fompedraza in the heart of Ribera del Duero at 900 metres above sea level, where the brightness of the stars on harvest nights provided the inspiration for the name of the wine and its label design.

Chapoutier La BernardineM. CHAPOUTIERWorld’s #5 Most Admired Wine Brand, Europe’s #2 Most Admired Wine Brand, France’s #1 Most Admired Wine Brand

Perhaps one of the most famous Rhone producers, M. Chapoutier is in the enviable position of offering wine both at an entry-level and also the very top tier, the latter evidenced by the company’s incredible tally of thirty 100/100 Parker Points.

M. CHAPOUTIER ‘LA BERNARDINE’ CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE RSP €34.49

Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines can be made with any proportion of up to 13 grape varieties amazingly, but Chapoutier’s La Bernardine is a more pure expression, only using mostly Grenache with a dollop of Syrah and Mourvèdre.

Jeb Dunnuck of Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate called it “gorgeously perfumed aromas of cherry blossoms, crushed flowers, incense and assorted berry-styled fruits on both the nose and palate”. No higher praise then!

Cono Sur 20 Barrels Sauvignon BlancCONO SUR#3 Most Admired South American Wine Brand

This young, fully carbon neutral winery is going from strength to strength in recent years and features regularly on this famous Drinks International list.

CONO SUR 20 BARRELS SAUVIGNON BLANC RSP €23.99

In 1996 Cono Sur decided to tackle the challenge of making their first ultra premium wine. The chosen variety was Pinot Noir and for its inaugural production they set apart 20 barrels of the best fruit the ’96 vintage had provided, and so the name of this famous range was coined after those 20 initial barrels.

Pinot Noir was soon followed by other varieties, with Sauvignon Blanc joining the line-up in 2005, going on to win a Gold at the Global Sauvignon Blanc Masters 2014 as well as being given 90 points in Decanter 95 Points in Descorchados and 90 Points in the Wine Advocate 2014, amongst many other accolades.

According to Decanter, the Cono Sur 20 Barrels Sauvignon Blanc has, “An exquisite nose of tropical mango and asparagus immediately engages. Sweetly intense, a beautifully fresh acidity underpins the broad, impressive palate which is jam-packed with flavour. Rich, powerful and enticingly complex.”

Grahams 10 yo tawny 009GRAHAM’S PORTWorld’s #1 Most Admired Port Brand

This famous and historic Port house is a shining example of how quiet dedication to quality and craftsmanship can always win admiration.

GRAHAM’S 10 YEAR OLD TAWNY RSP €36.95

Whereas we’re all familiar with Vintage and LBV Ports, the Tawny style is making a big comeback; thankfully Graham’s has been producing excellent examples of the style for years, so that premium-quality bottles of this often-understood category of Port a readily available and easily affordable.

Whereas the ruby Ports we’re all familiar with are bottled quite soon after fermentation, Tawny is left to age in oak, resulting in that distinctive tawny colour. Expect complex nutty aromas, combined with hints of honey and figs, while the palate is luscious and long.
