Female Chef Wins Young Chef of the Year Title for the Second Year in a Row

For the second year in a row a female chef has out-cooked her male competitiors to scoop the pretigious Euro-toques Young Chef of the Year title.

At a gala banquet event in Dublin’s five star InterContinental Hotel, Ballsbridge, 23 year old Maeve Walsh from Dungarvan, Co Waterford was awarded the much sought after Euro-Toques Young Chef of the Year 2016 title from special guest judge, two time Michelin starred chef Nathan Outlaw.

Maeve Walsh is currently Chef de Partie at Restaurant Forty One at Residence, Dublin 2.

Speaking after being crowned Euro-toques Young Chef of the Year, in association with La Rousse Foods, Maeve Walsh said,“ I can’t describe how happy I am to have won Euro-toque Young Chef of the Year 2016. When I first entered the competition back in September, I was doubtful that I would be picked as one of the finalists – never mind the winner.”

“La Rousse Foods have been great too and given me so much support every step of the way. I feel the opportunity to work under Nathan Outlaw will add another valuable dimension to my skill set. I am really looking forward to the challenge!”

The announcement comes after a three month process of interviews, on-the-spot culinary skills tests and sweating it out before a panel of world class judges yesterday in the kitchen at one Michelin star restaurant Chapter One yesterday.

Maeve Walsh was one of six finalists who battled it out to win this esteemed title and will now embark on an all expenses paid stage at Restaurant Nathan Outlaw in Port Issac, Cornwall. Maeve Walsh will work under Nathan Outlaw, who is Chef Patron at Restaurant Nathan Outlaw – the only specialist fish restaurant in the UK to hold two Michelin Stars.

Keeping her cool under pressure, Maeve showed skill, and understanding of flavour a mouth-watering dish of Kerry Hill Lamb that blew the judges away.
