For the third time Spain’s Bodegas Torres was named Number 1 on the prestigious annual list. It has never been out of the top two spots for the seven years of the award’s existence.
Following close behind in 3rd place is iconic Australian “Grand Cru” Penfolds, with the legendary Rhône producer and biodynamics activist Michel Chapoutier in 8th place.
In 10th place and the highest fortified wine of any description, is the historic Port shipper Graham’s.
Drinks International magazine also run “Most Admired Champagne Brand” and Bollinger was named Most Admired Champagne Brand for the 3rd time in four years.
The annual Drinks International “World’s Most Admired Wine Brands” listing is hotly anticipated every year, awarding as it does those brands for their more intangible achievements beyond simple sales figures.
Drinks International polled more than 200 of the world’s top Masters of Wine, sommeliers, commercial wine buyers, educators and journalists to draw up a list of wines that show consistent or improving quality; that reflect their region or country of origin; who respond to the needs and tastes of its target audience; that are well marketed and packaged; and have strong appeal to a wide demographic.
