RTE Weather Presenter Nuala Carey had a special delivery for patients of Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin today to celebrate the launch of Folens Christmas Annual Charity Campaign. This is the fifth consecutive year of the successful initiative, which has seen thousands of Folens Christmas Annuals being donated to children’s wards across the country.
Folens, Ireland’s leading purveyors of educational content began spreading festive cheer in the form of Christmas annuals in 1970. The much-loved annuals entitled ‘Sugradh, Sonas, Siamsa or Spraoi’ resonates in the mind of many Irish people as being the must-have Christmas stocking filler. Packed full of quizzes and activities, fantastic facts, jokes, Irish language activities, fiction and non-fiction stories, it is hoped that this year’s donation of annuals will help to brighten the festive period for children receiving care in over 23 children’s wards nationwide.
Each year Folens teams up with the dedicated volunteers of CHI to help to distribute their Christmas Annuals throughout children’s wards. CHI is a voluntary organisation working directly with children in hospitals to help them cope with illness and hospitalisation through the provision of daily play sessions, and provides ongoing support to families. For over 45 years CHI has been committed to bringing both support and fun to sick children.
Rachel Kenna, Director of Nursing, Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin, said; “Our young patients at Crumlin will have plenty of Christmas reading fun this year. Christmas is an important time for children and this initiative with Folens helps include our children in the exciting build up. We are extremely grateful to Folens and to our CHI volunteers who contribute so much to the patients and families of the hospital on an ongoing basis.”
