The weekend is here and with it the food and drink rituals we’ve been waiting all week to savour.

But in between brunch, your weekly takeaway, and drinks with friends there are a host of foodie events that will satisfy every craving.

Here are our picks of the five best food and drink events this weekend, June 17-18th.

Starting at Dublin Castle Palace Street, The Joyce of Food in Association with Irish Food Trail will see attendees visit three traditional Irish eateries with an expert local guide with each restaurant visit will serve a different course inspired by Joyce’s work accompanied by a reading of the excerpt from Ulysses to which it relates. Whiskey is not a stranger presence in Joyce’s work, and The Joyce of Whiskey Deluxe in Association with Irish Food Trail will allow you to celebrate whiskey in Joyce’s world with a two hour tour led by a local expert. Stop at three Irish pubs and sample two Irish whiskeys in each, accompanied with delicious bites.

Taste of Dublin

An estimated 10 billion champagne bubbles are expected to be consumed by attendees at this year’s Taste of Dublin, which kicked off on Thursday and runs until Sunday. Taking over the stunning Iveagh Gardens, there you can enjoy dishes from Dublin’s finest restaurants designed with the theme ‘Flavours of the World’ in mind, learn tricks of the trade from chefs and sample the delectable offerings of gourmet food producers, and with a big emphasis on drinks this year too there’s something for everybody.

Duncannon Gourmet Food Beach Market

Ireland’s first ‘Gourmet Food Beach Market’ takes place on on Duncannon Beach in county Wexford this weekend, the first edition of what will a weekly foodie affair every Sunday until August 27th from 11am to 5pm. The artisan market will feature wild and organic foods, cakes, crepes, BBQ meat, and fish from a host of local food producers and growers including Cloonagh Smokin Soul, otherwise know as ‘the BBQ guys’ who are representing Ireland in the world BBQ Championships in Limerick later this year.

Bia Lover Festival

Bia Lover festival

Now in its fourth year, the annual Bia Lover Food Festival will run from Friday to Sunday and will see a vast array of passionate producers seeking to showcase their delicious wares, with the beautiful backdrop of Athenry Castle. Visitors can expect a packed line up of food talks, cookery demonstrations and of course plenty of tasting samples.

Redhead Fest

Bar Rua

Calling All Gingers! On Saturday Dublin city centre’s Bar Rua promises a day of beer, music, and redheads for their inaugural Redhead Fest. Bar Rua, as Gaeilge for Red Bar, is the perfect place to honour our red head roots with art work hanging form the walls inspired and friendly red headed staff. A portion of the proceeds from the event will also be going to the charity MS Ireland. No tickets needed, just land on the day!
