The Top Ten Finalists Of Ireland’s Foodie Destinations 2018 Competition Have Been Announced

Ireland’s top ten food destinations have been announced as the judging for the country’s top foodie area commences.

Foodie Destinations 2018 is a fantastic competition by the Restaurants Association of Ireland to promote food tourism initiatives across the country.

Launched in June the RAI have now announced the ten shortlisted entrants after completing stage one of the competition.

The winner of the award will have promoted their area as a food destination by hosting a wide range of activities such as food festivals, farmers markets, food trails and tours as well as offering visitors to the area fantastic dining experiences.

Also taken into consideration by the judging panel will be the areas future plans for investment in the food and hospitality sectors.

The top ten finalists are:

  1. Armagh
  2. Boyne Valley
  3. Cavan
  4. Derry City & Strabane District Council
  5. Galway Gastronomy
  6. Kilkenny
  7. Kinsale
  8. Mid & East Antrim Borough Council
  9. Monaghan and Glaslough
  10. Sligo Food Trail

Chief Executive of the Restaurant Association of Ireland, Adrian Cummins commented on the announcement saying:

“We are delighted to move forward into the next stage of Foodie Destinations 2018 and this year the standard of competition couldn’t be higher. Foodie Destinations is an excellent opportunity for regions across Ireland to promote what makes them unique and the judges can’t wait to see what the ten shortlisted finalists have to show them.”

The next step in the competition sees the Foodie Destinations 2018 judges visiting each finalist to ensure that each finalist offers visitors a unique experience, community events, education and training.

They will also be a public vote, with entrants encouraged to campaign locally for their area. Judges are looking for an established food culture and identity in the future winner.

Online voting will begin on Wednesday the 25th of July, with judges visiting the ten finalists from 2nd – 20th August. The winner will be announced at the end of August.
