John Keoghs – The Lock Keeper on Dominick Street in Galway has been named as Gastro Pub of the Year in Galway by the Restaurants Association of Ireland for 2019. It has been quite the year for this westend pub as it was also named as Pub of the Year by McKennas Guide for 2019 in January. They are now launching their weekender lunch menu which begins every Saturday and Sunday from 1pm.
“Galways westend is getting busier and busier with daytime trade and tourists visiting, we want to be able to offer great food to people on the weekends at lunchtime in our pub. People can just pop in and eat a great bowl of soup or enjoy a fish dish or of course the pub classic, the burger, steak sandwich and fish and chips. The evenings kick off here from 5pm so the weekender lunch gives people another chance to enjoy eating on the other side of the river in Galway,” explained Matt Hall owner of John Keoghs.
The John Keoghs weekender lunch menu is all about comfort. With lighter bits starting that include the Pub Bravas with Irish chorizo and garlic aioli and a delicious West Coast Seafood Chowder. There is also a gluten-free vegan-friendly soup of the day all served with in house baked Irish Soda bread and Cuinneog butter.
At lunchtime, the John Keoghs Fish pie with seasonally caught fish, creamy mash potato, house salad and a white wine cream sauce is always a winner or the house favourite Beer Battered Fish of the day with chunky tartar sauce, lemon and those twice cooked chips. For meat lovers there is the Gilligans 8oz beef burger served in a Brioche Bun with onion jam, Irish cheddar cheese and twice cooked chips or the Dry Aged Black Angus Striploin Steak Sandwich, all paired with a nice glass of one of the many available from the extensive wine list.
