Wineport Lodge Wins Big at the Georgina Campbell Irish Breakfast Awards

Wineport Lodge has added another accolade to a long list this week, beating off strong competition to win Best Guest House Breakfast at the Georgina Campbell Irish Breakfast Awards, in association with Fáilte Ireland.

The luxury bolthole, located on the stunning shores of Lough Ree, has long been renowned for its exceptional dining experience, having initially opened as a restaurant in 1993. While it has developed a stellar reputation as an indulgent retreat, with 30 bedrooms all offering lake view balconies, food remains at the heart of the Wineport Lodge offering.

Owner Ray Byrne and Head Chef Austin Byrne were on hand at the InterContinental in Dublin on Tuesday to collect the award on behalf of the whole Wineport team. “We’re absolutely thrilled. Everyone at Wineport Lodge works extremely hard to deliver a high-quality food experience for our diners, and a coveted award such as this gives us a real sense of satisfaction, and a job well done,” said Ray Byrne.

“Much credit must be given to our fantastic head chef Austin, who joined us last November tasked with improving our already award-winning food offering. He has breathed new life into the menus while sticking to our dearly-held value of fresh local produce, brought to life with big flavour. We’re particularly excited about our new Weekend Brunch menu, which we’ll be rolling out in March, so watch this space,” he concluded.

There was high praise for Wineport Lodge in the Georgina Campbell Irish Breakfast Award citations;

“A softly gleaming jewel in the crown of Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands, Wineport is a wonderful place at any time, and there is something very special about beginning the day enjoying wholesome local food from the likes of Kilbeggan Organic Oats (porridge or granola) and Horan’s pork butchers in Athlone, while taking in the constantly changing light and wildlife on the lough just a few feet away from your table. And it’s especially wonderful at weekends when a superb brunch menu comes into play, offering everything from the super healthy to the frankly indulgent.

Tasty dishes like Croque Monsieur, Steak’n’Eggs or Smashed Avocado leap off the page, while Superfood Salad is a longstanding favourite and the gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian options are very appealing – but the Traditional Irish Brunch (aka the Full Irish) is still hard to beat! All round, it’s a winner.”

Why not book yourself a night’s stay and see for yourself why it continues to win accolades. Weekend rates including breakfast start from €185. Every room at Wineport Lodge is a luxurious cocoon of blissful comfort, each with a super king size bed and spectacular views of the lake.
