The Big Grill Festival returns to the Herbert Park in Ballsbridge this summer from the 11th-14th of August with around 20,000 visitors expected to attend. Celebrate all things BBQ related over three days of smoke and fire with some of the top restaurants and chefs in the country.
Pitmasters from around the world will be dropping in to share their favourite dishes, techniques and flavours from their fire pits. Learn the difference between Asado (South American), Mediterranean, German, Asian, Irish and Southern USA style low ‘n’ slow BBQ methods. Expect whole hogs, lamb on spits, flying chickens, goat, wild Irish game, Southern Style ribs, Asian skewered meats, Brazilian steaks and many more tantalising dishes and displays.
Headline chefs include Neil Rankin (Smokehouse Restaurant, London), Andre Lima de Luca (Brazil) John Relihan (Holy Smoke, Cork), Mark O’Brien (Barbecoa, London), ‘The First Ladies of Cue’ from Hangfire Smokehouse (Wales), Richard Turner (Hawksmoor/Pit Cue, London) along with restaurants Fowl Play, Box Burger (Wicklow), The Pigs Tale (Wexford) and Dublin favourites Kinara Kitchen, Pitt Bros and Asador.
There will also be a dedicated demonstration of Mallmann-esque cooking techniques with chefs from Churrascada, Brazil’s uber BBQ festival in Sao Paolo and organiser Andy Noonan’s new BBQ venture, Fowl Play.
Amateur BBQ enthusiasts can have a go at proving their skills in the Pitmaster Competition for the chance to win a place in the Jack Daniel’s BBQ World Championships in Tennessee in October. Apply on the website here.
The festival will feature a great range of Irish craft drinks with beers, ciders and spirits available for tastings and pairings. Live entertainment includes DJ sets, eating competitions and The Great Herbert Park Bug Hunt.
Children under 12 go free and they have their own special area to enjoy at the festival. The Big Grill is the ideal day out for families this summer.
Tickets from €15 are available on the website with special rates for large groups and corporate purchases.
