Go Bananas for Dinner this Evening in Aid of Temple Street

This Wednesday 19th April has been set aside as National Banana Day, the day when Ireland can officially go bananas. And the good news is, it’s all for a great cause. Fruit importers Fyffes, with support from Just Eat – the online food ordering app – are marking the day with an event designed to raise funds for the purchase of new multisensory equipment at Temple Street Children’s Hospital.

Denise Fitzgerald, Chief Executive of the Temple Street Foundation says, “We are thrilled that our friends in Fyffes have chosen to partner with Temple Street Foundation for ‘National Banana Day‘. The funds raised from this unique initiative will be put to work in our special hospital and will help make life better for our little patients.”

People can support the appeal by ordering a truly unique takeaway from the pop-up ‘Fyffes Kitchen’ which will be preparing an array of quirky, banana-infused dishes for one day only.

On National Banana day, from 4.30pm to 9.30pm, diners can search for ‘Fyffes Kitchen’ on the Just Eat app and choose from a special three-course menu before ordering for delivery within Dublin 1,2,3,4,6 & 8. The full proceeds from every Fyffes Kitchen order on the Just Eat app will go directly to Temple Street Children’s Hospital.
Those living outside the delivery areas within Dublin city can make a €4 donation by texting the word BANANA to 50300.

Commenting on what she termed “a deliciously interesting appeal on behalf of a worthy children’s charity”, Fyffes marketing manager Emma Hunt-Duffy said, “Through National Banana Day, our aim is to support the very important work being done by Temple Street Children’s Hospital whilst highlighting what a versatile, healthy and enjoyable fruit the banana is”.

The menu itself was created by pioneering food-innovation chef Kevin Powell. Kevin has devised a menu including a choice of starters, main courses and desserts, all of which are centered around Fyffes bananas. Each dish is flavoured with fantastically tasty sweet or savoury dressings, sauces and accompaniments.

Dishes will include exciting infusions like Spiced Banana Chip and Herb Salad with Pineapple-Chili Dressing for starter, mains like Apple, Banana and Tomato Butter Chicken and vegan Banana Cashew Pineapple Curry. Finish off your banana feast with a Chocolate and Banana Cream Doughnut or a Banana & Bacon Milkshake for a takeaway to remember!

Yes, that’s right, a Banana & Bacon Milkshake. Happy National Banana Day! For text donations of €4, Temple Street Children’s Hospital will receive a minimum of €3.25. For more information visit www.FyffesBananaDay.com
