Ireland’s First Poitín Bar is Popping Up in a Secret Dublin Location Tomorrow

This Autumn, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the decriminalisation of Irish Poitín, Ireland’s first fully dedicated Poitín pop up launches in conjunction with ‘Bán Poitín’. The pop up bar will be open to the public from tomorrow 20th of October until the 26th November and booking is essential.

The bar, ‘16-61‘, is named after the year that Poitín began it’s illicit journey, and it will be hosting a six-week residency in a secret Dublin location

Bán Poitín has been making waves in the Irish and UK cocktail scene since 2015 with their refreshing and modern approach. Since launching they have reached the shelves of world famous bars such as The Connaught Hotel, Callooh Callay, The Gibson and legendary Irish Whiskey bar, The Sun Tavern.

For Dave Mulligan, founder and well respected mixologist, it’s a no brainer, “Poitín has been on the rise for over five years now, we can’t believe nobody has done anything in Ireland like this before. We have seen specialist gin bars popping up all over London and the UK, it makes sense to support a revival of your national spirit, this is what Bán has been about from the get go.”

Taking all that they have learnt from London’s bar scene, Bán will present a list of Poitín cocktails designed to introduce a new generation to this notorious piece of Irish culture.

“We want to put Poitín on the pedestal it deserves, that’s why we are teaming up with all of Ireland’s legal distillers and giving each brand a place on the list. This is going to be the biggest celebration of Poitín since it’s heyday of the early 1800’s” insists Mulligan.

Expect weekly master classes, guest bartenders from home and abroad, exclusive spirits, stouts and porters. This will instantly be one of Ireland’s most unique drinking experiences and one not to be missed for any fan of Irish history, folklore or booze in general.
