More than 300,000 travellers took part in Condé Nast Traveler’s 2017 Readers’ Choice Awards, with Ballyfin claiming the top spot in Ireland’s top hotels.
The 5-star Co. Laois hotel beat out other prestigious Irish properties, including The Lodge at Ashford Castle, The Shelbourne and The Westbury.
Writing about Ballyfin, Condé Nast Traveler said: “If you’ve ever dreamed of summering at a country house, you couldn’t do much better than this stately, 20-room Georgian home.”
In other categories, Ashford Castle was voted the 9th best Hotel Resort in Europe, while Dublin was rated the 39th best city in the world, with Condé Nast commenting that the Irish capital is “renowned for its medieval buildings, live music, stately churches, and of course, Guinness”.
They added: “Get a sense of what’s new in the capital by seeking out its edgiest artists at Temple Bar Gallery and Studious, trying the fish of the day at Catch-22 or sampling the wares of Teelings, the first whiskey distillery to open in Dublin in 125 years.”
