Jean-Christophe Novelli is Coming to Northern Ireland for Clipper Race Kitchens

The Foyle Maritime Festival will be taking place again this July and as part of the Northern Ireland Year of Food and Drink there will be a huge focus on food. Organised by the Derry City and Strabane District Council, the Clipper Race Kitchens event will take place from the 14th to the 17th of July.

Over the course of the weekend many renowned local chefs will be taking part in talks, tastings and live cookery demonstrations in the Theatre of Food. Popular faces making appearances include Jenny Bristow, Paula McIntyre, Noel McMeel, Brian McDermott and Ian Orr, all great ambassadors for the talent in Northern Ireland.

Celebrity chef Jean-Christophe Novelli will also be appearing on the banks of the Foyle on Friday, July 15th. The Michelin Starred chef will bring his distinctive French flair and creative excellence to the event with a live cookery demonstration in Ebrington Plaza.

Mary Blake, Council’s Tourism Development Officer and organiser of Clipper Race Kitchens, is hoping for record attendances with an estimated 40,000 people expected to flock to the four-day culinary extravaganza on the Ebrington site. “Clipper Race Kitchens is the biggest event in our Year of Food calendar as we showcase LegenDerry food and produce from across our Council district and beyond. This is an excellent opportunity to profile the city as a leading food destination with international appeal, particularly following our success last year as runner-up in Ireland’s Foodie Towns competition, and we expect Clipper Race Kitchens to create a huge buzz as part of the Foyle Maritime Festival.”

Clipper Race Kitchens will have three zones on Ebrington Plaza with two festival marquees. Local restaurants will be serving signature dishes along the Boulevard of Chefs and the Clipper Race Food Pavilion will house some of the best local artisan producers, showcasing the flavours of the Foyle.

The four day event is free and family friendly with activities and play areas for the kids to enjoy. There will be live music, street food, chairoplanes and much more for the ideal family day out.

Clipper Race Kitchens is part of the Foyle Maritime Festival which runs from July 9th-17th and is supported by the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) NI Agri Food programme, Tourism NI and the Loughs Agency through the Sustainable Development Fund.
