Kerrygold Ballymaloe LitFest Holds its Inaugural UK Launch

The Kerrygold Ballymaloe Literary Festival of Food and Wine held it’s inaugural UK launch last night when this year’s programme was previewed to a full house at the Members’ Club at Quo Vadis in Soho.

Co-Directors of the Kerrygold Ballymaloe Literary Festival of Food and Wine, sister and brother team Darina Allen and Rory O’Connell of Ballymaloe Cookery School, and Jeanne Kelly, Head of Communications at Kerrygold, title sponsor of Litfest, welcomed an audience of culinary fans, chefs, food and drink writers and media, with guests including food & drink writers from across the spectrum of journalists, columnists, chefs, cookbook writers and bloggers to celebrate the launch of the festival.

Darina and Rory were delighted to welcome Diana Henry, Margot & Fergus Henderson and previous LitFest speaker, Claudia Roden, alongside past participants such as Jack Monroe, Sami Tamimi, distinguished wine writer Jancis Robinson and cocktail supremo Nick Strangeway. Many guests scheduled to take part in this year’s LitFest for the first time also attended, such as author Elisabeth Luard and beer and cider expert Pete Brown.

The fourth Kerrygold Ballymaloe Literary Festival of Food and Wine runs from 20-22 May at Ballymaloe, and the London launch was a chance to give a real taste of what’s in store this year, as well as growing awareness in the UK of this excellent festival right on its doorstep.

Invitees were treated both to a delectable selection of canapés and drinks showcasing fine Irish produce, with a special focus on delicious Kerrygold ingredients, as well as to an interview with some of last year’s participants, with Rory O’Connell interviewing Sarit Packer & Itamar Srulovich from Honey and Co., who made such a joyous and engaging contribution to LitFest 2015.

Speaking at the London launch, Jeanne Kelly of Kerrygold, proud sponsors of the ground-breaking and hugely successful Kerrygold Ballymaloe Literary Festival of Food and Wine said; “The Kerrygold Ballymaloe LitFest brings together world renowned chefs, food and wine writers and food lovers, all eager to learn, share, debate and, of course, enjoy food and wine in the beautiful, intimate settings of Ballymaloe in East Cork. With many of London’s finest chefs and food writers joining us to celebrate this year’s most unique and eclectic line up, this evening is a glowing testimony to the festival’s growing global success. We are already counting the days to LitFest 2016“.

As in previous years, Litfest will be welcoming the experts – award-winning food writers, famous chefs, food and environmental activists, avant-garde farmers big and small, food filmmakers and photographers, soil experts and bee-keepers, wine makers, distillers and brewers, and policy makers. Speaking at the launch Darina Allen said, “We are truly thrilled to be welcoming yet another fantastic gathering and with all the fabulous participants that are attending this year, Litfest16 promises to be electric!

From the movers and the shakers, to the icons and the next big thing, the dictum for this year’s festival is Local Hero – Global Hero, and the unique approach of Litfest will bring together another world-class lineup of fascinating and intriguing food and drink-focused authors and speakers at Ballymaloe in May.
