Disneyland for Chocoholics – L’Art Du Chocolat Review

There are somedays when a career in teaching seems like a much better option than food writing – mid term break is a perfect case in point. That time of year when every parent ponders how to keep the little angels occupied for a week. We had this struggle last week and by Friday, parks, cinema, swimming and Jump Zone had all been exhausted before the “I’m bored” stage had set in.

If there one thing kids (big and small)love it’s chocolate, so news we were taking a spin out to Maynooth to visit a newly opened Chocolate Bar, yes an actual chocolate bar was more than well received.

 L'Art Du Chocolat
L’Art Du Chocolat is the brainchild of two French chocolatiers from Bayonne, often referred to the chocolate capital of France, Cyril Borie & Nicolas Bateau. Both classically trained pastry chefs the two decided to take a gamble an open a cafe style chocolate bar in the heart of Kildare. With a huge student population coffee and cakes are bound to be a crowd pleaser.

First thing you will notice is the wall of deliciousness, with everything from praline spread to chocolate sausage (not as gross as it sounds we promise!) and practically every other cocoa creation imaginable.

You can’t serve stunning patisseries without backing it up with a great cup of coffee and the team have enlisted local micro coffee roasters Baobab as the house brew and after sampling two of their flat whites we can see why.

If you fancy something a little more substantial they guys offer cute mini baguettes filled with parma ham & rocket, Tartine loaded with goats cheese and freshly baked savoury croissants. They also stock lots of vegan chocolate and offer a 66% dark vegan hot chocolate. Our mini reviewer declined this and instead insisted on full sugar overload with a Caramel milk chocolate with salted butter, according to this hot chocolate connoisseur the best she has ever had.

Something kids and adults will love is the open viewing area into the kitchen where we watched the guys carefully create some tempting creations , there is however a downside to this as the temptation to sneak in and lick the giant bowl of chocolate is hard to resist.

It’s great to see a little bit of innovation happening outside Dublin city and if L’Art Du Chocolat was open on Sth William St it would be mobbed everyday. We love the ways the team here are so passionate about the quality of all the ingredients used and the fact they are supporting other small producers in the area.

 L'Art Du Chocolat

Just twenty minutes outside Dublin, it is well worth taking the short spin out to this chocolate paradise, but be warned they also offer tempting treats to go so chances of you escaping empty handed are slim !
