The Makers of Gunpowder Gin are Set to Release a Premium Irish Vodka

If you’re a fan of the tremendously popular Gunpowder Gin, which many gin lovers across the country count among their favourites for a G&T, then you’ll be intrigued to hear that The Shed Distillery behind the best-selling blue gin is set to release a premium Irish vodka.

Sausage Tree Pure Irish Vodka was unveiled to the public at Prowein International Trade Fair for Wine and Spirits in Dusseldorf over the weekend and PJ Rigney’s latest tipple is sure to be a hit with mixologists and cocktail fans alike.

Rigney travelled to Africa, where he discovered the ‘Sausage Tree’ or kigelia, hailed in Sub Saharan Africa for the restorative powers it is said to possess. Bringing this back to the Shed Distillery in Drumshanbo, Co. Leitrim, PJ has combined it with wild Irish nettle and combined with Irish grain to hand distill Ireland’s newest vodka.

Sausage Tree Pure Irish Vodka, like Gunpowder Gin, is hand bottled and presented beautifully, this time in a striking red bottle emblazoned with the words “nature has no place for the weak”. Sausage Tree will be distributed across Ireland by Dalcassian Wines and Spirits, which Rigney co-owns with John Dillon, from May and is expected to retail at a €43-€49 price point.

The launch of Sausage Tree comes as plans are finalised for the opening of a €1.5 million visitor centre at the distillery in 2019, meaning it is an exciting time for Leitrim tourism and locals alike, with up to 22 jobs created.
