Lidl Invests €250k to Kick Start Irish Food Start Ups

Lidl Ireland has launched a new supplier development programme called Kick Starts to support Irish food start ups across the country. The programme, which is supported by Bord Bia, is designed to give small start ups that produce food or drink across Ireland the chance to stock some of their products for a special food promotion. The programme will seek to nurture the ‘Best of Ireland’, with 100 of Ireland’s best products selected and stocked in all 153 stores around the country.

Lidl have invested €250,000 in the Supplier Development Programme with the aim of giving support to Irish food and drink businesses and help them grow their brands. Some of the suppliers currently working with Lidl started off as small start-ups and now supply products to stores across Ireland.

The businesses selected not only get to showcase their produce in the Lidl stores but are also invited to attend a series of comprehensive free seminars. The seminars will be led by a panel of experts from Lidl Ireland and Bord Bia and aim to guide the successful businesses through the process while teaching them skills to help grow their business ahead of their products going on sale.

Tara McCarthy, Chief Executive of Bord Bia, noted that: “We know from experience that local food producers face significant challenges if they wish to expose their product to a national audience. I warmly welcome this initiative by Lidl Ireland as it is an invaluable opportunity for Irish producers to market and showcase their products to consumers nationwide. With that in mind, I would encourage all small to medium size companies to apply.”

If you own a small to medium Irish food or drink business and wish to apply, you can enter online by visiting www.lidl.ie/en/kickstart.
