Listowel Food Fair – To whet your appetite !

Mouth watering programme of events including 20th Anniversary Gala Dinner & Awards, Craft Beer Symposium, Farming Seminar, Best Emerging Artisan Food Producer Awards and extensive programme of workshops and events

The 20th Listowel Food Fair is on from Monday 17th to Sunday 23rd of November 2014


Details were announced today of the 20th annual Listowel Food Fair, which will be held from Monday 17th to Sunday 23rd of November 2014 in venues around Listowel town, County Kerry. To commemorate the 20th Anniversary, the organisers have devised an extensive celebratory programme including … a Young People & Women in Farming Seminar with honorary guest speaker Minister Simon Coveney; an inaugural Craft Beer Symposium with leading authorities in this growth industry and, the highlight, a 20th Anniversary Gala Dinner & Awards. Popular events from previous years make a welcome return including, Cookery Competitions, the Craft Fair, an expanded programme of workshops for all ages with a focus on children and the continuation of the much anticipated and prestigious Best Emerging Artisan Food Producer Awards. The inaugural Listowel Food Fair was originally developed and organised by then local TD and today Minister of State at the Departments of the Taoiseach and Foreign Affairs with Special Responsibility for the Diaspora, Jimmy Deenihan, along with Johanna Watkins, Sheila Broderick, John O’Connor, Ella O’Sullivan, Frank Pierse and Brid McElligott. Over the past 20 years, the event has grown in prestige and is now firmly established as one of the premier food fairs on the Irish Calendar.

“One of the key elements of our 20th anniversary celebration will be the Listowel Food Fair Gala Dinner and Awards which will be held in the Listowel Arms Hotel on Saturday 22nd of November. As well as the conferring the Best Emerging Artisan Food Producer Awards and the announcement of the winners of other competitions, the evening will feature the official announcement and presentation of the Listowel Food Fair Lifetime Achievement Award to an individual who has made a significant contribution to both the Irish food industry and the economy. The recipient of this Award will be officially announced in early November.

Importantly one of our most popular events, the Farming Seminar, entitled ‘The important roles of young people & women in farming’ with guest speaker Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Simon Coveney, has moved to Monday 17th of November. It will be held in the Ballroom of the Listowel Arms Hotel.

Lastly, another exciting new element of our 20th anniversary programme is the Craft Beer Symposium on Friday 21st of November in St. John’s Theatre. Speakers will include experts from the Brewing Dog in Scotland, and other industry leaders, and it promises to be both an enlightening insight into this fast emerging industry”.

Other highlights over the 20th Listowel Food Fair include a special evening on Thursday 20th of November in the Listowel Arms Hotel, entitled from ‘Farm to Fork’ featuring food demonstrations by local chefs and culinary talks by experts in the meat and fish Industry. The evening will conclude with a delicious showcase by sponsor Pallas Foods involving chocolate and wines! On Friday 21st of November, the well known Kerry based chef and food author, Mark Doe, will host a cooking demonstration focused on how best to reduce food waste with some creative, easy to create dishes. There is also have an extensive programme of workshops, including Coeliac Information and cooking demonstration by Richard Sheehan, and the always popular children’s workshops. All Workshops sell out very quickly so early booking is advised. Once again the Craft Fair will take place on Sunday 23rd of November in the Listowel Arms Hotel.
