Is your Local on the List? The Sky Bar of the Year Awards 2017 Finalists Have Been Announced

The long awaited list of finalists for Ireland’s Sky Bar of the Year Awards 2017 has been published. The accolade, which recognises excellence and innovation in the Irish bar scene is on its twelfth year and through its categories, it acknowledges the best across the many different types of licensed trade.

From long-standing traditional pubs to trendy up and coming cocktail bars and cool quirky venues, this year’s finalists showcase some of the best the trade has to offer. The overall winners will be announced at a ceremony which will take place on August 21st in the Clayton Hotel, Burlington Road. While the finalists in some of the categories are yet to be chosen, the main ones have already their top contenders published.

Below, some of the key categories in the competition and the bars running for them…

Contemporary Bar of the Year: BlackBird (Dublin), Brickyard Gastropub (Dublin), Central Bar (Meath), Drop Dead Twice (Dublin), Filthy McNastys (Antrim), JJ Coppingers (Cork), Rising Sons Brewery (Cork) and Warehouse Bar & Kitchen (Donegal).

Traditional Bar of the Year: Bridie’s Bar & General Store (Kilkenny), Cobbler’s Bar (Mayo), Kehoes (Dublin), Michael Flannery’s Pub (Limerick), Mother Macs Public House (Limerick), South County (Cork), Tanyard Lane (Offaly), The Stags Head (Dublin) and Toners (Dublin).

Restaurant Bar of the Year: An Poitin Stil (Co Dublin), Angelina’s Bar (Dublin), Candlelight Bar @ Siam Thai Restaurant (Dublin), Joels (Dublin), The Elm Tree Glounthaune (Cork), The Lounge at FIRE (Dublin), The Piano Bar @ Rachel’s (Cork), The Tavern Bar & Restaurant (Mayo) and Tribeton (Galway).

Local Bar of the Year: Bakers Corner (Co Dublin), Brady’s Of Shankill (Co Dublin), Molloys Bar & Grill (Dublin), Penny Hill (Dublin), Sin é (Cork), The Barrelstore (Leitrim), The Bridge 1859 (Dublin), The Laurels (Dublin) and Uncle Tom’s Cabin (Louth).

City Bar of the Year: An Púcán (Galway), Bar Rua (Dublin), Caribou (Galway), Grand Central (Dublin) Left Bank (Kilkenny), Lemon & Duke (Dublin), Oscars Cafe Bar (Dublin), P.Macs (Dublin), Revolution Craft Bar (Waterford) and Seven Bar (Galway).

Hotel Bar of the Year (5 Star): Signature Lounges & Cocktail Bar @ The g Hotel & Spa (Galway), The Cellar Bar @ The Merrion Hotel (Dublin), The Gin Library @ Galgorm Resort & Spa (Antrim), The Marker Bar (Dublin), The Mint Bar @ The Westin Hotel (Dublin) and The Sidecar @ The Westbury Hotel (Dublin).

Hotel Bar of the Year: Arlington Hotel (Dublin), Headfort Lounge @ The Headfort Arms Hotel (Meath), Knights Bar @ Clontarf Castle (Dublin), McGettigan’s Cookhouse & Bar @ The North Star Hotel (Dublin), Panorama Bistro & Terrace @ The Montenotte Hotel (Cork) and The New Yorker Bar @ Cork International Hotel (Cork).

Tourist Bar of the Year: Fitzpatrick’s Bar and Restaurant (Louth), J.W. Sweetman Craft Brewery (Dublin), Murrays Bar (Dublin), The Jarvey’s Rest @ Muckross Park Hotel (Kerry), The Porter House (Mayo), The Porterhouse Temple Bar (Dublin), The Quays (Galway) and The Strand Tavern (Wexford).
