Make The Journey to West Cork This Bank Holiday Weekend And Celebrate The Land And Sea

If you’re looking for an event to occupy your bank holiday weekend, the search can end here. Deasy’s Restaurant in Clonakilty is hosting a Fundraising Gala Dinner in aid of West Cork Underwater Search & Rescue.

Living on an island has its perks, one of them being having access to a beautiful ocean that surrounds our country. Every day, thousands take to the ocean waves – to work, to play or to protect. Although the beach is mainly a happy place where memories are made, sometimes the dangerous ocean waves can cause more harm than good. When this happens, it brings comfort to know that there is a dedicated team of volunteers ready to heed the call to action and search for loved ones missing at sea.

West Cork Underwater Search & Rescue (WCUSAR) is completely funded by donations and relies on volunteers to lend a helping hand. To help raise money for the heroic organisation, they have teamed up with renowned head chef Caitlin Ruth of Deasy’s Restaurant to host a special gala fundraising dinner.

The event will kick off at 7:30pm on Sunday 28th October, where guests will be treated to unique 6-course menu complete with a cocktail and canapé reception and a whiskey nightcap. Making an appearance on the night will be West Cork-based, record breaking open sea swimmer, Steve Redmond. He will no doubt be full of stories to regale diners of his adventures out at sea.

Speaking about the event, John Murphy, diver and treasurer of WCUSAR, said: “We’re delighted to be working with Deasy’s Restaurant for our fundraising Gala Dinner. We have been overwhelmed by the local support we have received from Caitlin Ruth, the team at Deasy’s and all the local food producers who are kindly donating their time and produce for our event. Steve Redmond has been a long-time supporter of WCUSAR so to have him as our guest of honour will be really special for us.”

This fundraiser is important to the organisation as the money raised from ticket sales will go directly towards buying new equipment they desperately need to continue providing the very best service they can to the public.

Caitlin Ruth said: “It was such an honour to be approached by WCUSAR about this event. Deasy’s Restaurant is located right on the water’s edge at Ring Pier, and we have really close working relationships with the fishing community, so we understand the importance of the work that WCUSAR does to keep peace of mind for those who work at sea. You hope that no-one ever needs their help, but it is also a great comfort to know they are there should their specialist help be needed.”

Tickets are priced at €55 per person and every cent raised goes directly to West Cork Underwater Search and Rescue. Pre-booking is essential and tickets can be purchased via eventbrite.com.
