Chef Takashi Miyazaki Reveals Plans to Open Cork’s First Japanese Fine Dining Restaurant

From a tiny eaterey on Evergreen Street in Cork City, chef Takashi Miyazaki has created big waves on the Irish food scene with his commitment to introducing our palates to authentic Japanese flavours, and now he has announced that Miyazaki is soon due to welcome its sister restaurant, ichigo ichie.

Miyazkai broke the news on social media, giving few details away except that ichigo ichie will be a “Kappou Restaurant,” and will introduce Cork to its “first taste of Japanese fine dining.”

Opening in 2014, despite being mainly a takeaway (though the ‘hot noodle soup’ is eat in only) Miyazaki quickly gained a reputation for serving some of the most authentic Japanese food in the country.

Takashi’s 20 years Japanese cooking experience includes catering for heads of state and celebrities, and holding a number of head chef positions in both Japan and Ireland.

One of the strongest advocates for Japanese cooking in Ireland, the chef says his aim for Miyazaki, and now ichigo ichie, is simple:

“There are so many types of Japanese food. It is like a treasure box. I want people to enjoy the real flavours of Japan.”

Those who have visited Miyazkai, or indeed follow the chef on social media, will already be well acquainted with the exquisite plates of food he produces from the tiny kitchen, and we can only expect more great things to come when Takashi has the space and platform to experiment.

His feed includes a continual stream psychedelic-coloured dishes, made with a mix of local and exotic ingredients, and a constantly evolving chalkboard menu, with daily specials that might require translation before ordering.

Closing “to research for the new venture,” Miyazaki will be closed from 10th Tuesday to 12th Thursday October.

The search is already on to fill the role of Restaurant Manager, with applicants requiring experience in fine dining. To apply send CV by emails to miyazakicork@gmail.com or bring yours to the restaurant in person.
