Northern Irish Chef Named World’s Best Female Chef 2018

A Northern Irish chef has been named the best female chef in the world during the World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards in Bilbao.

Antrim native Clare Smyth opened her debut restaurant, Core by Clare Smyth, in London’s Notting Hill area last year.

The experienced chef and former protégée of Gordon Ramsay, spent 15 years in three-Michelin star restaurants and was head chef in one of Ramsay’s restaurants at just 28 years old.

Clare utilises French cooking experience and a passion for UK produce in her London restaurant.

Meanwhile, Massimo Bottura’s Italian restaurant, Osteria Francescana, was named the World’s Best Restaurant. Osteria Francescana topped The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list in 2016, was named No.2 in 2017 and returns to the summit in the 2018.

The restaurant, located in Modena in Italy, moved up the ladder from its number 2 position last year. Coming in second place this year was El Celler de Can Roca in Girona, Spain, while Mirazur in Menton, France came third.
