Celebrate a Different Kind of Octoberfest With The Boyne Valley Food Series
October brings with it the return of wintry weather and dark evenings, but it also means an Octoberfest of sorts with a hive of activities taking place in counties Meath and Louth for families and food enthusiasts alike with the Boyne Valley Food Series’ calendar of events to brighten those colder days.
The Central Bar, Restaurant & Café in Navan is hosting its own Oktoberfest on Friday the 6th and Saturday the 7th of October with authentic German food, traditional German beers and live music. Fancy dress is encouraged so break out your lederhosen!
Úlla Festival will take place on Saturday the 28th of October in Sonáirte Eco Centre & Gardens in Laytown. This family day out includes an apple walk and tasting tour with children’s entertainment and crafts.
The bank holiday weekend sees Dowth Hall hosting a Point to Point & Country Fair on Sunday the 29th of October. Six amateur jockey races over three miles will keep everyone entertained. Visitors can also enjoy a high-end shopping village, country fair exhibits and demonstrations, gourmet food vendors, live music, a kids’ zone and an artisan food fair with cookery demonstrations from star chef Richard Corrigan.
The family fun in Meath and Louth is set to continue into November with Strawfest at Rock Farm Slane taking place on Sunday the 5th of November to mark the end of the growing season at this organic farm with talks, cooking demos, a food market and a grow your own veg competition.
Tara Smith of Boyne Valley Food Series said, “We are on the final leg of our activity calendar for Boyne Valley Food Series until next year. To date, the series has been a wonderful success with more and more people discovering the food joys of the Boyne Valley. We particularly put an emphasis on family this year and we are delighted with the fun that families have had throughout the Series.”
