The Old Butter Roads Food Trail series’ next programme of events will take place in Mitchelstown, Co. Cork during the weekend of the 24th and 25th of June.
Next weekend’s Old Butter Roads Trail will celebrate the wide range of foods produced in the Muskerry, Duhallow and Avondhu areas of Co. Cork.
Free events on Saturday June 24th begin at 10am with a guided tour of Mitchelstown Allotment. Mitchelstown Library will host a butter making workshop in the afternoon. a food heritage exhibition and farmer, Maurice Walsh, will be there at 2.30pm to provide an insight into a day in the life of a dairy farmer. There’s also going to be a cow milking demonstration.
While Saturday is set to attract some crowds, the highlight of the weekend will be the food and wine tasting experience on Sunday, June 25th. Guests will meet at Ballinwillin House, home to the awarding winning Ballinwillin wild boar and venison, at 1.30pm.
The house has partnered with Joanne Sheehan from the Thatch and Thyme Cafe in Kildorrery to serve a range of venison and wild boar delights, paired with wines from Chateau Mulcahy, Longueville House cider and beers from JJ’s Craft Brewing Company.
Following this, guests will then embark on a guided historical walk of Mitchelstown, stopping at various points including; Market Place Restaurant, O Callaghan’s Deli & Cafe and Blueberries Café.
Praline Pastry Shop & Café, the latest addition to the culinary scene in Mitchelstown, will supply pastries and desserts to all venues. Music entertainment will accompany the food and wine tastings.
