Pretty as a ‘Pintxo’ – Tapas Photography Exhibition Takes Place in June

World Tapas Day takes place on June 16th, though fans of tapas can drool over these tasty bitesize beauties for the entire month of June at a photography exhibition celebrating “Pintxo”, a form of tapas, taking place from the 1st – 30th of June at Instituto Cervantes Dublin by Spanish photographer and artist Itziar Telletxea Rocha.

Telletxea Rocha’s project “Pintxo” is a food photography visual guide based on Basque Pintxo culture. The guide has been built to promote Pintxos, and how easy it is to make them without instructions. Pintxos (pronounced peen-chos) are small portions of food eaten in bars and are an expression of miniature cuisine in the Basque Country, that come from the Spanish tradition of tapas.

The challenge Telletxea Rocha set herself was to create a visual guide that would promote Basque tradition making of pintxos, without sticking to the classical cookbook format. The visual guide has no instructions, but instead shows the order of layers of food needed to build a pintxo, all held together by a wooden stick, a pinxto.

To show the content of the guide, the stunning food photography will take pride of place on the walls of Instituto Cervantes. Telletxea Rocha has also created a short video, which can be seen below, and a set of postcards and business cards, which will be available at the exhibition.

“Pintxo” is one of a series of portraits and many more photographic, design and illustration projects by Telletxea Rocha that will be shown at the exhibition cheekily titled “Give a Museum and I will Fill it”.

The exhibtion will be show at Instituto Cervantes for the month June, with the launch night taking place on June 1st from 6-8 pm. Insitito Cervantes is located in Lincoln House, Lincoln Place, Dublin 2.
