Two of Ireland’s Top Chefs Just Joined this Much Loved Cafe Group

The family-run Primrose cafe opened its latest premises on the Strand Road, Derry, at the end of October and now in further news the vintage style cafe group has welcomed to its team a former Irish Chef of the Year and one of Ireland’s top pastry chefs.

Joining Primose as head chef in their new expanded premises in the Maiden City is Derek Creagh, who won Chef of the Year at the 2015 Georgina Campbell Awards, and Monto Mansour has been appointed as Head Pastry Chef.

Previously head chef at Harry’s, Derek also worked at Deane’s in Belfast and a number of other Michelin-starred restaurants including Heston Blumenthal’s The Fat Duck, Chez Bruce, and The Square, Putney Bridge.

Far from the first time they have worked together, the two chefs, Derek and Monto, have been working in the same kitchen for the past ten years, starting at Deane’s and most recently at Harry’s.

The addition of these highly skilled chefs is part of a major expansion in Derry which saw the group create a total of 40 new jobs, including roles for chefs, waiting staff, baristas and bakers.

Established by husband-and-wife team, Ciaran and Melanie Breslin, first Primrose cafe was opened in 2012 with just four staff. The company now employs 38 people across two locations at Carlisle Road and Atlantic Quay.

Primrose won Best Casual Dining in Co. Derry in the Restaurants Association of Ireland awards, and is the north west’s current restaurant of the year.
