Dublin is our capital city and as a result, it boasts a huge number of high quality seafood eateries. From city centre venues to the suburbs of Howth and Malahide, you’ll be spoiled for choice.

The Oar House

Located in Howth, the award-winning family friendly Oar House has been a seafood haven for almost ten years. Popular with both locals and tourists, the Oar House is headed up by chef John Aungier and fishmonger Sean Doran. With their own trawler, “Celtic Fisher”, you can be assured that all produce is the freshest available. Their primary supplier, Dublin Bay Prawns, is a real family affair with Sean’s brother Padraig running the business. So sit back, relax and taste some of the dishes at the Oar House, including Cajun Style Calamari, Smoked Mackerel Pate, Baked Oysters, Crab Claws and of course, lightly battered Dublin Bay Prawns served with a homemade tartar sauce.

Klaw

Bringing Crabshack style dining to Dublin city, Niall Sabongi’s Klaw has a simple premise – fresh seafood in a relaxed atmosphere. Serving oysters from Galway Bay, Waterford, Dooncastle and the Flaggy Shore, you can sample your oysters naked, dressed or torched. For something more filling, try out the Crab Mac N’ Cheese, Grilled Prawns or their Lobster Roll. Pop into Sabongi’s spin off Klaw Poké for a tasty Poké Bowl, the perfect lunch option and Klaw Seafood Café for a better chance of nabbing a seat with the same incredible seafood offering.

Cavistons Food Emporium

First opening their doors in 1996, Cavistons Restaurant showcases the finest Irish seafood, evident in their 50 years experience in the seafood industry. With a menu selected daily by head chef Noel Cusack, Cavistons ensure that the best fish on offer that day is served to their customers. While the menu changes twice weekly, you can expect to dine on dishes like Cavistons Smoked Salmon, Roast Monkfish, Chargrilled Marinated Tuna Loin and much more.

Catch 22

Head to Clarendon Street to experience Catch-22. Cooking fish in a simple way to showcase the raw ingredients, you can dine in or get your tasty seafood dishes to go. Catch-22 sources their produce from the East, West and Southern coasts of Ireland, with tempting dishes like Castletownbere Smoked Salmon, Calamari, Mussel Pots and Carlingford Oysters all gracing the menu here.

Aqua Restaurant

The definitive room with a view, enjoy expertly prepared seafood in the historic Howth Sailing Club building, beautifully restored for the ultimate in nautical nostalgia. The incredible views only add to the award-winning Aqua dining experience, with organic ingredients, a kitchen garden providing fresh herbs and vegetables and their own pod of seals, a visit to this Howth restaurant is a truly unique experience. Choose everything from Fried Calamari and Baked Lamb Island Crab Claws to Sushi.

Lobstar

A unique lobster and steak bistro, Monkstown’s Lobstar offers visitors a menu bursting with beautifully fresh produce and a “globally artistic” edge. Focusing on the local, owners Zsolt Zakar and Veronica Zakar source their produce from producers like Carlingford Oysters and boast a tempting menu, with dishes like Lobster Bisque, Roaring Bay Mussels, Crispy Sea Bream and more. Their Surf N’ Turf options will make your mouth water and the Poached Lobster Burger satisfying all who sample it.

Cliff Townhouse

A visit to the Cliff Townhouse won’t soon be forgotten. With menus overseen by Michelin Star Executive Chef Martijn Kajuiter from sister property Cliff House Hotel, your palate will be treated to the finest seafood available. Cooked with simplicity and elegance, Head Chef Sean Smith offers visitors a wide array of dishes on the restaurant’s seafood-focused menus, including Prawns Tempura, Stuffed Baby Squid, West Coast Scallops, along with a variety of platters and oyster dishes. You can also enjoy a pre or post-theatre menu at the hotel’s oyster bar and some incredible seafood tapas downstairs in Urchin.

Octopussey’s

If you’re looking for seafood tapas, look no further than Octopussy’s in Howth. A restaurant that is “licensed to chill”, enjoy a slice of the famed Mediterranean life, with fresh fish and shellfish just a menu order away. Serving Carlingford Oysters, Dublin Bay Prawns, Balscadden Bay Deluxe Crab Claws and other tempting treats like Monkfish and Prawns Thai Curry and Irish Sea Hake A La Rossa, you’ll be spoilt for choice. They also serve classics like Fish and Chips and some menu items for those in your party who might not be the biggest fans of seafood. A real favourite on the menu is Octopussy’s Seafood Paella, with mussels, gambas, squid rings, smoked coley and some chorizo for good measure.

Sole Seafood & Grill

Offering a taste of Ireland in the heart of Dublin, newly opened Sole Seafood & Grill offers an incredibly varied menu from all corners of the Emerald Isle, from West Cork Mussels and Connemara Oysters to Howth Smoked Irish Organic Salmon and more. Sole is sure to prove popular among seafood lovers from Ireland and abroad.

King Sitric

Experience King Sitric, one of Howth’s historic seafood restaurants. Celebrating 40 years in business in the picturesque coastal suburb, Aidan and Joan Mac Manus cook fresh fish on a daily basis and accompany these seafood sensations with an impressive wine list. They also have East Cafe Bar, which is perfect for casual dining and socialising.

Michael’s Mount Merrion

With chef Gaz Smith at the helm, Michael’s Mount Merrion is the place to be for great seafood in Dublin. Honest, fresh and simple, Gaz prides himself on bringing the finest and freshest seafood to the table. Using local Wicklow boats to source the freshest shellfish and seafood, Michael’s serves beautifully cooked treasures of the deep like Crab Claws, which are caught in small boats and delivered to the restaurant the same day. Gaz is so passionate about Irish seafood that he has made it his business to encourage kids to try it, from gathering to cooking and devouring.
